MEET Rhys Dylan

Rhys Dylan was born and raised in the Swansea Valley, where summers on an open cast mine gave him his first taste of Wales at its most unvarnished. He spent his working life as an eye surgeon before the writing took over — though crime fiction, he'd argue, demands much the same qualities: close observation, pattern recognition, and a lifelong habit of looking beneath the surface.

He published adult novels under his own name, two of which became BBC films, before returning to crime. His first novel as Rhys Dylan, The Engine House appeared in 2022 and introduced DCI Evan Warlow. The series now runs to more than twenty books and has made him an Amazon bestseller in four countries. Longlisted for the 2026 Dagger in the Library Award.
